Multi-talented singer/songwriter mxmtoon hit the stage at Danforth Music Hall in Toronto on May 4, 2022, as part of the Rising tour, supporting the release of her forthcoming album (out May 20).
mxmtoon crafts relatable pop songs with clever, honest lyrics and vivid storytelling. The young singer started with humble beginnings writing ukulele tunes in her bedroom and has now amassed billions of streams.
As a vocalist, mxmtoon has obvious talent. With a clear vocal tone and an expressive stage presence, mxmtoon’s performance seemed effortless, whether she was crooning the soft acoustic tune i feel like chet or belting out sustained notes in bon iver.
Throughout the night, fans sang their hearts out along to the music, and some very Canadian jokes were thrown around between mxmtoon and the crowd (see the mxmtoonie sign in the photos below). It became clear that, aside from the music, it’s mxmtoon’s down-to-earth and inviting energy that has allowed her to garner such a loyal fanbase. Being at the show felt like hanging out with your best friend, as she made a genuine effort to chat with fans between songs and fans threw gifts to her on stage (including flowers and an adorable octopus stuffy).
Other highlights from the show included previews of tracks from her upcoming album Rising. Fans were treated to a performance of the unreleased coming of age, a peppy pop anthem that mxmtoon said was inspired by the song Everything Is Awesome from The Lego Movie.
