Skepta
Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr. (born 19 September 1982), known professionally as Skepta, is a British grime MC, rapper, record producer and DJ. Alongside his younger brother Jme, he briefly joined Roll Deep before they became founding members of Boy Better Know in 2005. With Boy Better Know, Skepta clashed with fellow MC Devilman for the video release Lord of the Mics 2, in what is remembered as one of the biggest clashes in grime history. Skepta has been nominated for three Brit Awards, including the Brit Award for British Male Solo Artist. His influence on contemporary British popular culture as a key figure in the grime scene saw him appear on Debrett’s 2017 list of the most influential people in the UK. He received a Nigerian chieftaincy on 4 April 2018, with his title being “Amuludun of Odo-Aje”.
Talk
Nicholas Durocher, known professionally as Talk, often monikered as TALK, is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician from Ottawa, Ontario, best known for his 2021 hit single “Run Away to Mars”. He received several Juno Award nominations at the Juno Awards of 2024, including Breakthrough Artist of the Year (which he won), Songwriter of the Year for the songs “Afraid of the Dark”, “A Little Bit Happy” and “Wasteland”, Album of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year for Lord of the Flies & Birds & Bees, and Single of the Year for “A Little Bit Happy”. The album was also a longlisted nominee for the 2024 Polaris Music Prize.
Hozier
Andrew John Hozier-Byrne (born 17 March 1990), known professionally as Hozier is an Irish musician, singer and songwriter. His music primarily draws from folk, soul and blues, often using religious and literary themes and taking political or social justice stances. His third studio album, Unreal Unearth (2023), was released on Rubyworks Records and debuted at number one on the Irish and UK charts. In 2024, he released the EP Unheard, which includes his first number-one single in Ireland, the US, and the UK, “Too Sweet”.
SZA
Solána Imani Rowe (born November 8, 1989), known professionally as SZA, is an American singer-songwriter. She first gained recognition through her self-released EPs See.SZA.Run (2012) and S (2013), which helped her become the first female artist to sign with Top Dawg Entertainment. SZA’s second album, SOS (2022), spent ten non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 and broke the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the U.S. Supported by six singles, including the top-ten songs “Good Days”,“I Hate U”, “Nobody Gets Me” and “Snooze”, SZA earned her first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Kill Bill” in 2023. She later earned her second chart-topping single of the year with her guest appearance on Drake’s “Slime You Out”. SZA has received several accolades in her career, including four Grammy Awards, a Brit Award, an American Music Award, a Guild of Music Supervisors Award, and two Billboard Women in Music awards (including Woman of the Year). As a songwriter, she has co-written songs for Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Travis Scott, ScHoolboy Q and Rihanna. In 2024, she was honored with the Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame
Chappell Roan
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz (born February 19, 1998), known professionally as Chappell Roan, is an American singer and songwriter. Working with collaborator Dan Nigro, the majority of her music is inspired by 1980s synth-pop and early 2000s pop hits. Her aesthetic is heavily influenced by drag queens, and her music and performing style have been described as “campy”. The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess garnered a cult following in the months after its release and was regarded as a “sleeper hit” by early 2024. The album’s commercial breakthrough was largely influenced by Roan’s supporting act on Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour, her performances at music festivals like Coachella and Governors Ball, and the success of her follow-up single, “Good Luck, Babe!”. By June 2024, Midwest Princess had climbed the charts, peaking within the top ten on the US Billboard 200 as well as in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK. Subsequently, several of its singles entered various charts for the first time since their release.
Denzel Curry
Denzel Rae Don Curry (born February 16, 1995) is an American rapper. Born and raised in Miami Gardens, Florida, Curry started rapping while in the sixth grade and began working on his first mixtape in 2011, which was influenced by underground Florida rapper SpaceGhostPurrp. The mixtape was later featured on SpaceGhostPurrp’s social media, giving Curry attention in the local music scene and resulting in him joining the former’s hip-hop collective Raider Klan. King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 2 which released on July 19, 2024. All of his projects have garnered significant critical acclaim.
Ya Cetidon
Independent Congolese artist who currently lives in Canada. Ya Cetidon grew up in Pointe Noire until he obtained his Baccalaureate and flew to the USA where he lived for almost ten years to continue his studies. He has been making music since the age of 10 thanks to his mother who was a Gospel singer and his father who was a music producer in addition to other occupations. He has released several singles and clips, which have accumulated more than three million listens on digital streaming platforms and more than a million views on Youtube with his song Bella Vida.
T-Pain
Faheem Rashad Najm (born September 30, 1984),known professionally as T-Pain, is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, record producer and actor. He is known for popularizing creative use of Auto-Tune pitch correction, often used with extreme parameter settings to create electronic-styled vocal performances. Blending its use with R&B and hip hop sensibilities, T-Pain become a prominent figure in both genres throughout the 2000s. Other music industry artists, such as Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Future, and Travis Scott, have since utilized Auto-Tune to a similar effect.
Green Day
Green Day is an American rock band formed in Rodeo, California in 1987 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt, with drummer Tré Cool joining in 1990. In 1994, their major-label debut Dookie, released through Reprise Records, became a breakout success and eventually shipped over 10 million copies in the U.S. Alongside fellow California punk bands Bad Religion, the Offspring, Rancid, NOFX, Pennywise and Social Distortion, Green Day is credited with popularizing mainstream interest in punk rock in the U.S.
Tyla
Tyla Laura Seethal (born 30 January 2002), known mononymously as Tyla, is a South African singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Johannesburg, she signed with Epic Records in 2021 following the domestic success of her 2019 debut single, “Getting Late” (featuring Kooldrink).
Tyla gained international recognition after the release of her 2023 single “Water”, which entered the top ten in multiple countries including her native South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. “Water” was the first song by a South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years and was awarded the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024. The single preceded her self-titled debut album (2024), which was released to critical acclaim and moderate commercial success, entering the top 25 in multiple countries including the United States.
Tyla became the youngest African artist to win a Grammy Award, and has also earned nominations for a BRIT Award, a Soul Train Music Award, a MOBO Award, and two South African Music Awards. Tyla won the most awards at the 2024 BET Awards, tying with Usher and Victoria Monét. She was dubbed the “Queen of Popiano”, a fusion of the pop and amapiano genres.
