Falling in love with Fable

We test out many products here at ADDICTED, and over the years, we’ve seen our fair share of the good, the bad and the genuinely exceptional. Today is an entry for the latter.

I found myself scrolling through Instagram, as I do on most days, and up popped an ad for stunning dishware paired with crisp, clean, yet bold flatware. My interest was peaked, and I wanted to learn more, so I did.

Upon arrival, we opened up the serving bowl, serving spoons in white and gold, plates and matte gold flatware. As soon as we gazed upon it, we were elated to see that not only did it look just as stunning in person, it looked and felt even better than we could have imagined.

Say hello to Fable.

Fable works with partners in Portugal to produce timeless handcrafted dinnerware and flatware that we love, and not only for the way it looks but the way it presents and how functional it is. Now that’s quite the combination, wouldn’t you say?

Flatware: (Matte Gold)

This fine crafted classic flatware makes a statement with any table setting. Perfect for dressing up a dinner for two, hosting a small family lunch, or even using daily, we’ve become addicted to this truly stunning collection.

(Available in matte black, polished silver. matte silver, and matte gold, pictured below)

Serving Spoons: (Matte gold and white)

I don’t think I’ve ever had such strong feelings about serving spoons in my life, but the first time I used them, I must admit, I felt rather regal. Like the flatware, they are made with the utmost care and consideration, and it shows.

The serving spoons are not only beautiful to look at, but they are also great utensils. While my test is over, my love affair with this entire flatware collection will continue forever, and maybe it because this collection is more than just flatware; it’s a labour of love.

THE MATERIALS

Much like their business, the Herdmar family’s metals are built to stand the test of time. The 18/10 stainless steel is locally sourced and 3.5mm thick, giving a dense and perfectly weighted feel.

ABOUT THE FAMILY

The Herdmar location was founded in 1911, setting out to create the world’s best knives. Over a hundred years later, this lone mill has expanded into a thriving family-owned company. Fable was welcomed to their facility with waves and hellos from everyone, most of whom were siblings and cousins, still running the business today.

Dinnerware: (Plates and serving bowl)

Each piece seems unique, though it must only be by little differentiation because they stack beautifully in the cupboard. These well-made plates are sturdy and fresh while still being fun and exciting, thanks to the muted speckles throughout the pieces.

The serving bowl is perfect for a big helping of stuffing around the holidays or a big old salad daily. This multi-use bowl is truly a work of art, made by some very talented hands.

THE MATERIALS

The beautiful dinnerware is made from locally sourced recycled ceramics and clay from just miles up the road. Instead of flushing saturated water down the drain, it’s recycled on-site, creating zero water waste at the facility.

THE PROCESS

Crafted by local Portuguese ceramists, the Fable products are made using a balance of machinery and an artisan’s touch. The clay, mixed by machine, is transported to a press to be shaped and trimmed. Once dried and evaluated for quality, each piece is sanded and glazed. It’s then transported to the kiln to be fired, then cooled and boxed, ready for their voyage to your door.

After a month with Fable, the flatware, dinnerwear, serving spoons, and serving bowl are not only breathtaking, they are right out of a fairytale. I guess we know now why they chose the name.

So, if you’re looking to bring the luxury of restaurant dining into your home, check out the beautiful collection from Fable, and make your at-home dining dreams come true.
