Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram Down for Thousands of Users

Are you having trouble using Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp today? Well, you’re not alone; Facebook is down.

Today, October 4, 2021, Down Detector reports that just in the hour of 11EST that over 125,000 users reported an issue with one of the apps or related websites.

It also shows reports of people all over the world experiencing issues. In Canada, the USA, Denmark, and the Netherlands, tens of thousands of reports have been flooding in the last few hours.

Facebook has posted a statement on Twitter, saying it is working on getting things back to normal.

Facebook Said:

“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products.

“We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

According to TechCrunch, “It appears that a DNS causes the outage (domain name server) fail — this is the naming structure that forms the web’s infrastructure. So, if you try to navigate to facebook.com right now, the internet won’t know where to find facebook.com.

The trillion-dollar company, which boasts 2.9 billion monthly active users, has remained down for the last few hours and counting. At the same time, the Facebook stock has gone down about 5.5%. This follows a recent downward trend for the stock as Facebook faces scrutiny in the U.S. Senate after whistleblower Frances Haugen leaked internal documents to the Wall Street Journal.

It seems this may be yet another hit for the social media giant, but even with these issues, we have a hunch that users will still return once things are once again up and running.

Hopefully, things will be fixed in the coming days, if not hours, but for now, as of 1:40 pm E.S., many, including us, have no access to any of the Facebook family of apps, including Instagram and Whatsapp.
