Indie rock’s premier songwriter hits the road in support of his 6th studio album.
Josh Tillman seems past his hilarious trolling days where anyone and anything, himself included, was a target. Cracking the indie singer/songwriting mold with Fear Fun in 2012, he shattered it with humour, raw emotion and honesty, clever wordplay and instant-classic melodies three years later with I Love You, Honeybear. Tillman put, well, everything under his scornful gaze and lashing words with Pure Comedy in 2017. Then, fans sadly shadowed Tillman’s emotional and existential decline with the 2018’s heartbreaking God’s Favourite Customer before he found his footing and released the lovely faux-jazz exposition of Chloë and the Next 20th Century in 2022. As diehards clamoured for the next, songs leaked bit by bit as the FJM band played the big stages of North America supporting Kacey Musgraves. Prior to the proper release of Mahashmashana, which occurred on November 22, singles including the slinky 9-minute hip-grinder I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All, greasy rocker She Cleans Up, atheist-worship track Screamland and chaotic story time with Josh Tillman and the Accidental Dose. The remaining four tracks deserved no less attention, and their performances became question marks to Misty’s faithful can flub.
The tour began proper (following a warmup show at the artist rehearsal Mecca of Lititz, PA) on February 12 in Chattanooga, TN before concluding in Washington, DC on March 1st. April takes the Misties to Europe before the tour arrives back to these shows in July. The Toronto stop touched down on February 21, selling out Massey Hall promptly.
