A new gala is hitting the Toronto scene and is sure to bring together a diverse group of Torontonians on June 20th! The long standing Toronto Jazz Fest is now bringing together a Jazz Gala to support local artists participating in the festival.
The Toronto Jazz Festival, running June 21st to 3oth featuring artists like André 3000, Dominique Fils-Aimé, Kirk Diamond, TOBi and more is a highlight of the summer in Toronto.
The inaugural Toronto Jazz Gala, on June 20th, aims to give 100% of net proceeds to supporting local and Canadian artists playing Jazz Fest 2024 this June. Their goal is to provide a fair paycheque and large audiences to more than 750 musicians across 125+ performances.
CEO Howard Kerbel tell us, “Funds raised through our inaugural Jazz Fest Gala allows us to continue to support local artists who have struggled significantly since the pandemic closed down many of the clubs and venues they frequented, More than 90% of our 100 free shows at festival (June 21-30) feature Canadians–and a strong contingent of emerging artists. Local artists need our support more than ever and we are proud to be able to continue our strong commitment to them.”
The Jazz Gala chair, Lily Li feels that this fundraiser is pivotal the supporting emerging musicians. “It is an absolute honour to chair the inaugural TD Toronto Jazz Fest Gala Fundraiser. Step back in time to the roaring ’20s at the Windsor Arms Hotel on June 20th at 7 PM and immerse yourself in the glamour and excitement of the era, complete with incredible jazz performances. I am thrilled to be involved in this exclusive event in support of emerging musicians and artists. Let’s come together to support a wonderful cause and celebrate in 1920s-inspired style!”
The gala fundraiser hosted at the Windor Arms hotel will have big band music, fashion, food stations and more. As the evening goes on, a cuban jazz vibe will start to sway the attendees as well as a full salsa band. The event will be hosted by philanthropist and Real Housewife of Toronto star Joan Kelley-Walker and there will be photography by the incomparable George Pimentel.
Committee member Kulin Matchhar is confident this is an event you do not want to miss! “I’m thrilled to be part of the inaugural TD Jazz Gala because it celebrates the rich history and vibrant future of jazz in our community. This event brings together passionate musicians, dedicated supporters, and enthusiastic fans for an unforgettable evening. It’s a unique opportunity to experience world-class performances and support the arts, fostering a deeper appreciation for jazz and its cultural impact.”
