Every now and again, if we are lucky, we get to enjoy an absolutely magical vacation, and this past December, I got to experience exactly that, as I had one of the most memorable holidays of my life during my visit to beautiful Belize.
Belize is on the eastern coast of Central America, with Caribbean Sea shorelines to the east and dense jungle to the west. The massive Belize Barrier Reef is offshore, dotted with hundreds of low-lying islands called Cayes, including the stunning one we stayed on for our trip, Ambergris Caye.
As we set out from Toronto amid cold weather, all I could think was how wonderful it would be to escape to somewhere warm. After about a four-hour flight from Toronto’s YYZ to Belize City, we passed through Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport. From there, we caught a fourteen-minute flight over to Ambergris Caye on Tropic Air on a twelve-seater flight that flew low enough to see all the islands and beautiful views along the way before we landed to check in at the Victoria House Resort and Spa, Belize.
Upon arrival on Ambergris Caye, we were driven to the resort, a quick ride through town and onto the property. As we arrived, the beauty of the vegetation and the perfectly manicured gardens greeted us, and so did the exceptional staff; we were quickly checked in, taken to our room and shown around our stunning villa that would be home for the next five days.
As we made our way from the front desk to our room, we were in awe of the stunning property, the crystal clear pools, and the beachfront views, which led us to the beautiful villa that we would make home for the coming days.
We were excited by the space’s openness and upscale tropical comfort as we walked into our villa. With a kitchen, second bedroom, two bathrooms and four outside areas, the villa we called our own was stunning and private and had more than enough space to rest, relax and unwind in style. Not only that, but it was just steps away from the infinity pool and a slew of other amenities, being that it’s not a huge resort, which made it even more memorable and personal for me.
The property offers everything you might need, including a restaurant, lounge, spa, gym, dock (access to boats), two pools, and beachfront access, all on a property that feels like paradise.
So whether you’re looking for an adventure vacation with a place to eat and rest up, or you’re looking to plop yourself down for some tanning and pool time, the great part about Victoria House Resort & Spa is that it offers whatever you need to make your vacation everything you ever wanted, whether you’re a thrill seeker, a foodie, or just looking to enjoy a lazy week in the sun.
Palmilla, the Restaurant on the property, offers breakfast and dinner, and Admiral Nelson’s, the lounge bar, offers lunch and dinner. All the food along the way was truly delicious and well-plated. From downright delicious eggs benedict or waffles for breakfast to sumptuous steak, lobster and shrimp for dinner, and so much more, each and every meal we had at Victoria House was top-notch, surrounded by stunning views. The only thing that made it all even more extraordinary was the outstanding service we received during our wonderful winter getaway.
Throughout our entire stay, from the cleaning to the restaurant staff, the front desk, and the management, everyone we interacted with was friendly, upbeat, approachable, and very good at what they do. It made our stay that much more special, which is hard to do on such a fantastic resort in such a beautiful part of the world, but we truly loved the food, the property and the staff. What more could you ask for? Well, there was also so much to do off the resort, which the team at Victoria House is happy to help you with.
On our second night, we returned to the main area in town, down by the water, to catch a catamaran for a truly extraordinary sunset cruise, which did not disappoint. We sailed to the end of Ambergris Caye, watching the waves, spotting dolphins and experiencing a truly memorable sunset. In the days following, we would go fishing and catch about fifteen fish between us and snorkel with the sharks to check out the coral reef at Hol Chan Marine Reserve, which was a magical experience; we even had lunch on a remote Caye with the fish we had caught earlier that day, which was such an excellent way to spend a sunny afternoon.
The adventures in the area seemed endless, and if we had more time, we would have explored even more.
On top of all our fun outings, we also tootled around the island on bikes. You can also do it in a golf cart, which is very popular on Ambergis. Along the way, we tried the local food in town; it was delicious, and we made sure to swim in the saltwater, in the pools, catch lots of sun, and, most of all, enjoy the beautiful weather and warm sunny days before we’d inevitably have to head back to winter weather at home.
From the breathtaking beachfront views to the food and the staff to the fantastic property, we honestly had the most wonderful time in Belize, mainly thanks to the exquisite Victoria House Resort and Spa.
So if you’re looking to get away, be on the water and enjoy a little piece of paradise, you should check out Belize and Victoria House Resort and Spa, so you too can enjoy a dream vacation, basking in the sun, living the life and having as much fun as your heart desires, because that’s what a dream vacation is all about.
