I love fall. It marks the return of changing leaves, the cool crisp air that’s not yet frigid, and the return of sweater season.
Now when I say sweaters, that’s what I mean, but this also includes my love for flannel and sweatshirts, but today, we are going to focus on sweaters and cardigans.
When looking for sweaters, there are many factors to consider: the purpose, how thick and probably most of all, how warm they keep you in the fall and hopefully well into the winter. That being said, some sweaters are meant to be more for fall or spring, while others are almost exclusively meant for winter, so today, we are going to go through some of our faves.
The Thin Sweater
Used more for spring and fall, this sweater is always a great go-to. I like to think of it as my method of easing myself into colder weather. Before you crack out the big winter coat and the huge thick sweaters, the thinner, lighter sweaters come first.
This is pretty much one of the only sweaters you’ll be able to pull off in warmer weather, too, for example, cooler nights while on vacation in Mexico.

The Turtleneck
The turtle neck is the other sweater you’ll be able to wear throughout most of the year. It’s funny; as a teenager in the 90’s, turtle necks were everywhere. Then in the 2000s, it began more for a dressier look, then in the 2010s, it seemed to disappear altogether, but once again, the turtle neck is back in style, and we assume it’s here to stay for a while, hopefully at least till the end of winter.
Perfect for dinner parties, nights out or a day at the office, turtle necks offer a little extra warmth and style all in one.

The Thick Sweater
Don’t we all (those of us that live in cooler climates) love a great chunky sweater? I sure do. I nice, the thick, warm, well-made sweater is a must-have for everyone, regardless of age or gender, and if you can, get a few.
Honestly, I don’t know what it is, maybe the comfort, the material, or the weight of a heavy sweater, but it always makes me feel so much more at ease and relaxed. On top of that, it’s a perfect underlayer when the weather gets super cold.

The Cashmere Sweater
There’s a reason so many are obsessed with cashmere: it makes for some truly beautiful and soft sweaters, and if you’re looking for an amazing option at a great price point, you should check out the selection for Mott & Bow.
We personally love them.

The Chunky Cardigan
What brings me joy is a big old cardigan, so much so that I’m wearing one right now as I write this.
Comfy, easy to wear, warm, honestly, I would produce and sell these if I knew where to begin. For me, they are a Canadian staple, just like a warm winter sweater and a Canadian tuxedo.

So, whether you need some thinner sweaters, maybe something chunkier, or you’re looking to start sporting a turtle neck again, the joy of the cooler weather is that it allows for seemingly endless choices for staying warm, comfy and cozy and stylish this fall and winter.
